Chaired by BBC Farming Today presenter Charlotte Smith, the debate will feature prominent speakers including UKIP MEP Stuart Agnew and AHDB chairman and former NFU president Sir Peter Kendall.

The debate will also voice the opinions of a number of farmers and other industry leaders.

Alice Bell, who has organised the British Pig & Poultry Fair, said: “The EU referendum clearly has enormous ramifications for the farming industry, and it’s essential that producers are well informed about both sides of the argument.”

She continued: “A lot of debates so far have centred on farming subsidies, but as neither the pig or poultry industry receive such payments it will be interesting to debate the wider implications for both sides of the vote.”

Morning topics of the debate will include the outlook for the pig, poultry and egg sectors.

The afternoon sessions will feature technical experts and producers who will share how producers can identify marginal gains and prepare their businesses for the future.

The British Pig & Poultry Fair provides visitors with a chance to catch up with the latest news in the industry. 350 trade stands have been confirmed, as have more than 45 energy exhibitors to help producers to compare suppliers and identify options.

There will also be plenty of new ideas, products and advice on offer, to help pig and poultry producers harness the tools and knowledge required to drive their businesses forward.

“Innovation and ideas are the driving force behind development of the livestock industry, and visitors are sure to get plenty of both,” says Alice.

“This year we have introduced an Innovation Trail featuring over 80 new products, to make it easier for visitors to identify fresh ideas to take home.”

The British Pig & Poultry Fair, partnered by ABN, will be held at the National Agricultural Exhibition Centre at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on 10th and 11th May.
