Call to action for Britain’s best butchers to claim the Tri Nations Cup

In the quest to bring home the trophy, Team GB is launching its search for the six best butchers in the country, whose skills will be pitted against their counterparts, including New Zealand – the hosts and current champions of this year’s competition.

The Tri-Nations Butchery Competition showcases the calibre of British butchery internationally, bringing together the best in the field as they battle it out for the top prize.

A team of six British butchers will take on rivals Australia and New Zealand in the Tri-Nations Butchery Competition in September 2015.

David Lishman, award-winning butcher and 2014 team captain, said: “Last year the New Zealand team proved they are a class act and this year they have a home advantage. But, butchery in Great Britain has a rich heritage which, with the right team, makes me quietly confident of our chances”.

Those selected to represent their country will be treated to a study tour that will allow them to gain an insight into the global nature of the trade, and exchange information on best practices among industry leaders. The experience and the results of the competition provide valuable feedback to the competitors and wider industry.

Describing the potential of the competition to celebrate and showcase British talent, David Lishman declared: “Today’s British butchers are extremely talented and regularly demonstrate their abilities at regional and national cutting competitions, but it is the Tri-Nations competition that gives us the opportunity to illustrate these talents globally.”
