Davidsons Specialist Butchers scoop prizes at Meat Skills Scotland competition

Lisa Finnigan and Steven Cusack both of Davidsons Specialist Butchers, Inverurie were crowned winners at the 2015 Meat Skills Scotland competition at the Scottish Craft Butchers Trade fair in Perth.

Finnigan, winner of the Young Butcher of the Year 2015 award, becomes the first female winner of the category. Cusack received the prize for the Butcher of the Year 2015.

John Davidson, managing director at Davidsons Specialist Butchers said: I was delighted and very proud to watch each of them execute professional meat butchery displays that wowed everyone in the building.”

Following regional heats, four finalists in both categories competed at the event and were assessed by head judge Keith Fisher on their cutting of beef, lamb and pork.

“The candidates we’ve got here are so good.” Fisher said: “I really look forward to this event because the skills that are available from young people and the senior butchers is absolutely fantastic and it is a real treat to get involved with it.”
