World Meat Congress

This year is the 40th Anniversary of the IMS, and the overall theme to this year’s Congress is “Prospects for Sustainable Development and Growth of the Global Meat Industry”.

IMS Secretary General Hsin Huang said: “More than ever, international trade is vital to the meat and livestock industry, so we will be eager to assess the potential for new markets during this Congress. With the boost of industrialisation in the Chinese meat industry, and ever changing meat consumption patterns, China will need to enhance communication and cooperation with international counterparts in the meat sector”.

“China and its Asian neighbours will play an important, even crucial part in food and meat security. The Asian region has comparatively little agricultural and water resources, which means that further integration into world markets is crucial to meet rapidly growing demand”.

The closing session will feature a leadership colloquium bringing together global meat industry leaders in a moderated discussion on food security, food safety and sustainability and how these three will drive meat production and consumption trends in the future. This session will include five speakers –all CEO’s of global meat companies:

  • Shuanghui Group, China
  • JBS S.A., Brazil
  • Heilongjiang Grand Farm Industrial Co. Ltd, China
  • Danish Crown A/S, Denmark
  • Tyson Foods, USA
