Fraudsters are targeting butchers warns NFMFT
The National Federation of Meat & Food Traders (NFMFT) has issued a warning to its members to be on their guard against fraudsters. One of its members suffered at the hands of the criminals to the tune of £5,000.
With Christmas coming the Federation advises butchers who are taking payments over the phone when the cardholder is not present to ensure that:
1. Whoever collects or receives the goods is the card holder
2. The recipient signs for the goods
3. The signature is checked against the signature on the card
4. The card details are the same as the details given over the telephone
5. Remember: the authorisation check does NOT guarantee payment
