HCC look to take Welsh meat to Belgium

A marketing drive to put Welsh lamb and beef on the menus of restaurants in Belgium has taken place this week.

Representatives from Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) and Welsh processing companies are at Horecatel, Belgium’s premier trade show for the hotel, restaurant and catering trade. The event attracts thousands of professionals from across the sector.

“Brussels is the cosmopolitan capital of the world,” said Laura Pickup, HCC’s market development manager who is attending the show in the city.

“Not only is the city at the heart of the European Union with senior politicians and officials from all 28 countries present all year round, but it also plays host to foreign embassies from across the world.

“They all work and live in the city, which means that Brussels has a huge number of leading restaurants and hotels to cater for this discerning international trade on a daily basis,” she said. “As a result it is the ideal location to get Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef on the menus to showcase its quality and versatility.”
