Magnificent Seven at Meatup

Meatup will host the country’s best young butchers as they compete for the title of Premier Young Butcher 2015, awarded by the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT).

Following a record number of applications the nominees have been shortlisted and the winner will be announced at Meatup, held over two days from 30th June – 1st July.

This year’s competition sees for the first time two female competitors, Lucy Crawshaw of Taylors Farm Shop in Lancashire and Tara Davies of Gog Magog Hills Farm Shop near Cambridge.

They will be joined in the competition by George Clapham of Far Barsey Farm Shop, near Halifax, Yorkshire, Ryan Douglas of Carnivore Foods, in Sidcup, Kent and Matthew Lewis from Blacker Hall Farm Shop in Wakefield, Yorkshire.

Lewis Perry of Packington Moor Farm Shop and Joe Smith of Lishman’s of Ilkley, North Yorkshire make up the seven finalists.

Roger Kelsey, chief executive of the NFMFT, praised this year’s nominees: “Each year the selection of candidates for the competition gets tougher as the skills amongst the apprentices get stronger.”
