Perthshire butcher Simon Howie helped to fuel Burns’ Night celebrations after producing a record number of haggis for Tesco this year.

The company, which has grown from a single shop in Dunning, has been supplying the supermarket chain with an expanding range of products during their relationship which spans over eight years. Chairman, Simon Howie, confirmed that this year over 150,000 haggis were delivered to Tesco in time for Burns Night.

He added: “We’re delighted to have broken our record in terms of the number of haggis we’ve supplied to Tesco for Burns Night this year. This included our Original Haggis, Wee Haggis and sliced Perthshire Haggis products. In fact, we supplied 50% more haggis to Tesco than for the same period last year.

“With our haggis widely available in Tesco throughout the UK, the lead up to Burns Night has been a busy period for us. Our burgeoning relationship with Tesco means that we’ve been able to grow our team substantially to meet our sales growth and our customers’ needs, allowing us to supply our range of products to millions of consumers throughout the year”.

Dani McCann, local marketing manager for Scotland, Tesco said, “Our sales of haggis over the last two weeks were up 63% on the same period last year which is fantastic news. Burns Night is more popular in Scotland than it has been in years – our great relationships with local suppliers like Simon Howie play a big part in this success and in the promotion of this fantastic celebration to our customers in Scotland and beyond.”
