Tulip ramps up Chinese export drive
Representatives from Tulip Ltd joined Environment Secretary Elizabeth Truss on her recent ground-breaking trade trip to China in a bid to pursue new opportunities for UK producers to sell into the Chinese consumer specialist food market, which is expected to be worth £39bn this year.
Commenting on the visit Martin Sauer, sales & export manager at Tulip Ltd, said: “As the UK’s leading pork manufacturer and number one pig farmer, we currently export in excess of 50,000 tonnes of pig meat to more than 50 countries globally, an increasing percentage of which is going to the Chinese market.
“We have invested heavily in our UK operations during the past 18 months to support our ambitious growth plans for our export business and this latest opportunity to build closer links with China is extremely important as it will help to ensure UK businesses like ours can benefit from the opportunities which may arise in the future, supporting additional growth and jobs in the UK.”
Last year was a record for the UK food chain, with the industry contributing £103bn to the UK’s growing economy. In 2014 alone UK food and drink exports reached a record 150 countries worldwide.
Environment Secretary Elizabeth Truss explained: “The UK has a worldwide reputation for producing top quality food and drink and we are increasingly seeing British firms taking advantage of the growing demand in China for our produce.
“I was delighted to be joined on our latest trade visit by Tulip Ltd, who are already blazing a trail with their exports to China.
“With UK exports of food and drink to China having more than doubled in the past five years there are plenty of opportunities for businesses across the UK to follow in their footsteps.”
