ABP UK launches ‘Homegrown’ scheme to upskill workforce

Meat supplier ABP UK has extended its Talent Academy with a new training and development programme, Homegrown, for current and future employees.

Bob Carnell, CEO of ABP UK

The programme has been developed internally as part of the ABP Talent Academy, launched in 2016, which provides opportunities ranging from early career pathways to leadership and senior development schemes.

Training will be tailored to individuals’ needs and will range from specific role skills, such as trimming and boning, to motivation, wellbeing and communication.

ABP UK is also updating its graduate and apprenticeship programmes, which more than 400 people have undertaken since 2016. The company said these schemes create opportunities across the whole business, including butchery, finance, food science, processing, health and safety and retail operations to attract new talent to the food industry.

Bob Carnell, CEO of ABP UK, said: “Our people are our greatest asset and training and development has always been a crucial part of ABP’s development strategy. We are extremely proud to introduce the ‘Homegrown’ programme to help progress our colleagues, alongside taking steps to engage and educate the next generation on the wide variety of opportunities available in the food sector at ABP.”
