AHDB launches campaign to put steak and lamb on Britain’s BBQs

AHDB is launching a campaign to put steak and lamb at the heart of Britain’s BBQs, as a survey commissioned by Simply Beef and Lamb has revealed that more than a quarter of Brits would like to see more lamb and beef steaks on the barbecue this summer.

AHDB’s Simply Beef and Lamb barbecue campaign will run throughout the summer months.

By targeting the country’s barbecue market, AHDB’s Simply Beef and Lamb campaign is hoping to benefit the lamb and beef industry, as last year around 108 million barbecues took place, with an almost even split across mid-week and weekend meals at 46% and 54% respectively.

The number of barbecues held has also risen by 6% year-on-year.

The consumer campaign is particularly aiming at aiding the lamb industry by increasing demand during the summer months, when English lamb is dominant in its supply to market.

AHDB head of Beef and Lamb Marketing, Nick White, said: “It’s a misconception that steak is difficult to cook on the barbecue – it’s actually one of the quickest and tastiest cuts to prepare on the grill.

“It’s brilliantly versatile and there are numerous ways to enjoy it, from cutting it into kebabs to marinating it in different flavours; it’s an easy way to impress guests.”

The Simply Beef and Lamb barbecue campaign will run throughout the summer months, with the support of comedy YouTuber Anto Sharp and online ‘Food Busker’, John Quilter.
