Nearly 100 jobs at risk at Peter’s Food Service

Peter’s Food Service, known for its sausage rolls and pies, is set to reduce production at its Bedwas site as part of its business review.

This decision is said to affect up to 90 members of staff. According to the company, the business has experienced exceptional increases in raw material prices and has taken the decision to “terminate some contracts which it considers unviable for the business”.

Union Usdaw’s representatives have entered into consultation talks with the company, in which Usdaw is “interrogating the business case for the proposals”.

Jason Stevens, Usdaw area organiser, commented: “We are seeking to minimise compulsory redundancies and ensuring the business has a viable future.

“In the meantime Usdaw is providing our members with the support, advice and representation they require at this difficult time.”

Peter’s Food Service opened over 50 years ago and currently has ten distribution centres around the country, supplying fast food outlets, restaurants, cafes, sandwich shops, independent retailers, schools, hospitals and hotels with a range of over 900 product lines.

Meat Management has contacted Peter’s Food Service for comment and has not received a response.
