Tulip Ltd appoints Mike Wijnberg as MD of Fresh Division

Tulip Ltd has appointed Mike Wijnberg as managing director of its Tulip Fresh Division.

Wijnberg will take on responsibility for the division’s abattoirs and fresh butchery operations across the UK from 1st June 2018.

He re-joins Tulip having previously worked for the organisation from 1995 to 2005, initially as a veterinary manager within the farming business. During his 20-year tenure, Wijnberg took on additional roles, including operations manager and supply chain manager, as the company grew through a series of mergers and acquisitions.

Since leaving Tulip in 2015, Wijnberg has been running SAC Consulting, the commercial division of Scotland’s Rural College, which offers a range of rural education, research and consultancy services across multiple sites.

On the new role, Wijnberg said: “It’s a pleasure to return to Tulip. My recent experience has given me a different perspective and one I believe will help me to lead the Tulip Fresh team forward. It’s an interesting time for the sector with more people than ever before with a genuine interest in the provenance of their food and looking for high quality meat.

“I look forward to working with the UK team and colleagues from across the wider Danish Crown group to build a new and stronger business.”

Steve Francis, CEO of Tulip Ltd, also commented: “Mike’s unrivalled expertise in pig production, animal welfare, food safety and business management, together with his deep understanding of the history and heritage of Tulip and Danish Crown, will be of great value to the business.

“As part of Danish Crown, we possess a wealth of knowledge and experience in abattoir and butchery operations, and I am confident that under Mike’s direction we will build on a solid platform to become truly world class.”
