Meat manufacturer Scotbeef Ltd has announced that Uel Morton is to join the company in the role of development director this summer.

Uel Morton.

Formerly chief executive at Quality Meat Scotland for 11 years, Morton will take up his position in August.

He commented: “I am really looking forward to this new challenge; the red meat industry is hugely dynamic and I relish the opportunity to make a contribution to Scotland’s leading red meat processor.”

Morton has served in chief executive roles in the Scottish food and drink industry for the past 20 years, and on his step down from QMS earlier this year, stated his intention to “retain an active role in the Scottish food and drink industry, including consultancy and non-executive work.”

His career has also included nine years as chief executive of United Farmers Ltd, which looks after business relationships between its members and suppliers in the agricultural sector.

Robbie Galloway, CEO of Scotbeef Ltd, said: “Uel brings a unique skill set to Scotbeef that will enable us not only to develop our opportunities but also help us navigate some of the challenges our industry is going to face in the years ahead.”

Scotbeef Ltd is said to be one of the UK’s largest privately owned fresh meat companies. It manufactures a wide range of meat products for the UK retail market, working in partnership with farmers who produce livestock to the ‘highest welfare standards’, using ‘efficient and sustainable processing systems’, and investing in the ‘latest technology’.
