Young Manager finalists for MM Meat Industry Awards unveiled

Following a full day of interviews and discussions, the four finalists for the Young Manager Award, part of the prestigious Meat Management Industry Awards, have been selected.

After looking through a substantial number of nominations and selecting top candidates to meet face-to-face, the judges recently gathered at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, for a full day of interviews.

They were looking for outstanding candidates aged 32 and under who have achieved qualifications or made exceptional progress as a young meat manager – either through an industry scheme or via a business.

We can now reveal that the finalists, as pictured left to right below, are: Chris Esler from ABP Guildford; Holly Miles from Dunbia; Ed Hillier from Tulip Ltd; and Jamie Burnett from Cranswick.

The judging panel was made up of Christine Walsh, managing director of Meat and Livestock Commercial Services Ltd; Graham Yandell, publisher of Meat Management magazine; Keith Fisher, chief executive of the Institute of Meat; Bill Jermey, chief executive of the Food & Drink Training & Education Council; and Rob Smith, UK market director at Danish Crown.

Speaking after the judging, Keith said: “Interviewing for the Young Manager Award is one of those events in the build up to the main awards that is most enjoyable. To have the opportunity to meet and talk to the Young Manager finalists is exciting in itself. It really does bode well for the meat industry knowing it will be in such safe hands in the future.”

Bill added: “The finalists this year all demonstrate, in different ways, that the meat industry offers great career choices for young people. Whether straight from school or via university the opportunities are endless, and these four finalists have done extremely well in their businesses. They show the way for others to follow.”

The Young Manager of the Year 2018 winner will be revealed at The Meat Management Industry Awards black-tie dinner. The event takes place on Wednesday 24th May at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
