Butchers of all ages from across the country can now register for the national WorldSkills UK competition. It will be the first butchery competition held as part of a major event that puts people’s skills to the test.

Organised by Cambrian Training Group on behalf of WorldSkills UK, and supported by an Industry Steering Group consisting of Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), the competition will focus on all the essential skills that are required to be a successful butcher.

Innovation, creativity, presentation and the competitors’ approach to tasks will also be considered.

“This is the first year that butchery will be included as one of more than 60 skills to feature in the competition,” said Melanie Hughes, HCC’s market development officer. “Designed by industry experts, the competition will assess a butcher’s skills and techniques as well as practical qualities that are important to employers. These include team work, time management and working to deadlines.”
