Asda in talks with Vion over Gaerwen plant in Angelsey

According to BBC reports Asda and Vion are now in talks over the future of the Welsh Country Foods plant in Angelsey.

This follows the Vion announcement that the factory at Gaerwen could close as a result of Asda’s decision to swap suppliers. The closure could mean the loss of 350 jobs. The Asda business currently accounts for around 50% of the total business of the Welsh plant.

Asda is reported to have made the decision due to changing needs. It remains to be seen if the supermarket giant will reverse its decision after a turbulent week. Although it was not directly affected by the horse meat in burgers issue it too withdrew products from shelves earlier in the week as a precaution.
