Food Awards judging in full swing

Headed up by well-known meat and food expert Keith Fisher, the chief executive of the IoM, product judging for this year’s FMT Food Industry Awards is underway and has started the process of evaluating a record entry of products for this year’s Food Awards judging at Harper Adams University.

Head judge Keith Fisher reports that entries are of a very high standard.

Product judging for this year was postponed twice previously because of Covid restrictions and the lockdowns imposed by Government, but it’s now full steam ahead and judges will taste, sniff, touch, view  and consider a wide range of entries from right across the food processing and retailing industry.

Keith Fisher commented: “It has been frustrating to see these arrangements postponed and delayed, but we are now getting down to business and I must say that when looking at the range and diversity of products, and the companies and top brands that have entered, we have a very interesting and exciting few days in prospect. These Awards are truly unique in the scope of what they cover and I can see already that the quality and innovation will not disappoint.”

The annual Awards feature a range of meat and poultry categories for product entry as well as various key industry sectors, including dairy, fish, baking, confectionary and packaging. Voting for other categories including the prestigious Food Industry Champion has also taken place on a substantial scale this year.

The team of home economists responsible for cooking and preparing entries prior to judging are reporting that the standard they are dealing with is very high. With a record entry this year, well up on previous Awards, the judges have a big job over the coming days to select the best of the best.

Due to the impact of Covid-19 and the need to pre-plan, this year for the first time, the FMT Food Industry Awards ceremony will be broadcast online as a virtual event and readers and the wider industry can pre-register now at the website for a reminder email and link to be sent to them on the day.

Sharon Yandell, the lead organiser for the FMT Food Industry Awards concluded: “It is such a pleasure to receive a brilliant selection of products from so many leading companies and it’s wonderful to be staging the judging again this week. It’s great to be back!

“We are also looking forward to the Awards Ceremony taking place at 4.30pm on Thursday 1st July and I recommend an early visit to the website to register for an email reminder. It’s all completely free and we are looking forward to a great event.”
