Announced at this afternoon’s BPEX Foodservice Pork Product of the Year Final hosted at Butchers’ Hall; the ribeye steak had already been awarded Gold and given first place in the Fresh Pork Cut category, before judges unanimously decided it deserved the recognition of being named the best overall pork product for the catering sector.

Competition judges agreed that the ribeye steak – from quality produced local pork – was a fantastic addition to menus, delivering good value for money, with the fruity marinade adding a premium touch to the dish to deliver real diner appeal.

Richard Taylor, managing director of Owen Taylor & Sons Ltd, was delighted to receive the award, and told Meat Management what the title means for the Derbyshire-based family business: “To us as a company it obviously gives us more recognition all the time. We do try and source the best product that we possibly can, and the livestock is sourced locally. The pork product today, from the shoulder especially, and our special marinade, has come up trumps.”

All in all we’re looking for the perfect product, and I would say that this year has been one of those years when we’re getting near to it! So it’s been really exciting.”
