Ingredients veteran Steve Derrick retires from Kerry

Well known to many in the meat industry, Steve Derrick, has announced his retirement and completed his last day with ingredients supplier, Lucas Ingredients, part of the Kerry group.

He told colleagues: “I have enjoyed my time working with you all immensely and have had many good times.

“I have learnt many things, made many friends, and have lots of great memories that will stay with me for a long time to come.

“Whilst thoroughly looking forward to my retirement, I will miss working with you all a great deal.”

Steve is a fully qualified butcher with over 40 years’ experience in butchery, meat product manufacture, marketing and sales.

After spending 25 years with the Meat & Livestock Commission, now AHDB, Steve joined Lucas Ingredients in 2004, with the responsibility for looking after Lucas’ customers in the southern half of the UK and more recently, southern Ireland. Steve has been instrumental in developing new products, as well as advising, supporting and providing training.

As a regular judge at industry shows and competitions around the UK, Steve has been at the forefront of the butchery market and is a leader in developing best practice and innovation for retail butchers.

Meat Management editor, Pam Brook, said: “Steve has been around the UK butchery trade for many years and played an instrumental part in helping many retail butchers with new, creative ideas for their displays. He is highly knowledgeable, respected and liked by many and whilst he has undoubtedly earned his retirement following a long career he will be missed by many.”

Steve is also a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers.
