AHDB Beef & Lamb has appointed Awal Fuseini as its new halal sector manager.
Fuseini will oversee all of AHDB’s halal work, cooperating with processors, certification bodies and retailers, as part of the organisation’s coordinated plan to improve understanding of the halal marketplace in the UK and targeted export markets.
He will join the organisation at the beginning of April, and is currently studying for a Humane Slaughter Association-funded PHD at the University of Bristol – focusing on the development of a new system for electrical stunning of cattle. Fuseini also holds a BSc in Agriculture from Cape Coast University in Ghana, as well as an MSc in Meat Science and Technology from Bristol University.
Fuseini has also served as the Certification Manager of Halal Food Authority.
AHDB’s head of global supply chain development, Dr. Phil Hadley, hailed Fuseini’s “great wealth of experience” and added: “This is a growing area that offers tremendous potential for our levy payers, particularly given the challenges to our products in traditional markets.”
