A fire broke out at the 2 Sisters Food Group Thetford facility on Sunday 17th July which saw more than 200 employees evacuated from the building.
The fire on Caxton Way was reported at 3.07pm and led to 270 workers leaving their posts while it was extinguished by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.
An online post from Norfolk County Council confirmed that appliances from Thetford, Brandon, Bury and Attleborough, along with support from Earlham and the control unit and support from Wymondham, attended a fire in a commercial building on Caxton Way on the Sunday afternoon.
The crews wore breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using hose reel jets. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots.
It is believed that the fire began in the insulation in the ceiling above a production line.
A spokesperson for 2 Sisters Food Group told Meat Management: “Fire crews were called at around 3pm on Sunday (17th July) to our factory in Caxton Way, Thetford, after a burning smell was reported by colleagues.
“Around 270 members of the team who were on site were evacuated quickly and everyone safely accounted for.
“We understand insulation in a roof void was found smouldering. The cause is being investigated.
“Fire crews successfully dealt with the problem and on-going production will remain unaffected.”
