Scottish pig processing facility Quality Pork Ltd (QPL), in Brechin, has temporarily shut down after an extensive fire in the early hours of 5th August halted production.
Police have appealed for information about the fire that broke out at 4:05am and, according to the local press, saw more than 40 firefighters in 12 appliances, including aerial and special support vehicles, respond to tackle it.
A QPL spokesman confirmed that the incident happened when no personnel or livestock was on site and that there have been no casualties.
He stated that the company will continue to work “closely with the authorities in investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage inflicted” and added: “No further comments can be made in relation to the circumstances surrounding the incident pending a full investigation.”
Police Scotland said they will be working closely with all relevant partners, including Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the circumstances, adding: “Enquiries are at an early stage and the fire is currently being treated as unexplained.”
Detective inspector Scott Fotheringham said: “This has been an extensive fire but thankfully, as the premises was shut, no one has been injured.
“I would ask that if anyone has information about the incident, they call police with any details they have.”
