A report compiled by the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) has claimed that kosher meat prices in Britain could drop following Brexit.

The document, titled Brexit and the Jewish Community, is due to be published on Monday 19th March and outlines the potential outcomes for British Jews and related industries, after the UK leaves the European Union.

Kosher meat prices could fall after Brexit, according to a report. (Pictured: Holishkes - a traditional Jewish dish with minced meat.)

A copy seen by The Jewish Chronicle claims that the report contains no specific details on how new trade deals with European nations, or other countries, would affect the cost of kosher meat.

The Jewish Chronicle also states that the board and JLC call on the Government to stand by the exemption that the EU provides for shechita, the Jewish religious and humane method of slaughtering permitted animals and poultry for food.

On the issue of religious slaughter, EU regulations call for animals to be mechanically stunned before slaughter, but provide an exemption for member states to make exceptions for shechita and the Muslim dhabihah method.

Overall, the report focuses on areas including security, trade with Israel and the provision of kosher meat, while an event organised by the two groups in Parliament on the evening of Monday 19th March will feature Conservative MEP Daniel Hannah and former education minister and Labour peer, Lord Adonis.
