Over the last five years, pork roasting joints have generally declined in volume in the summer months, whereas marinated pork has shown strong growth levels during the same period, according to latest Kantar data. (October 2013).
In fact volumes have nearly doubled since 2009, with volume share increasing from 6.3% in the summer of 2009 to 12.2% this summer.
BPEX foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger, is not surprised by these figures. He said: “We have seen a considerable increase in the volume of marinated pork purchased over the last five years; as new cuisines such as Mexican and Asian continue to grow in popularity, consumers are becoming increasingly inspired to recreate these flavours at home. What’s more, marinated pork is perfect for the barbeque offering fresh flavours combined with tender pork which can be enjoyed by all ages.”
