CEO of McDonald’s UK and Ireland Alistair Macrow said that “today’s pressures” have meant that the fast food chain has decided to increase the price of its cheeseburger for the first time in more than 14 years, from 99p to £1.19.

In email to both staff and consumers, Macrow said that this summer, restaurants will be adding between 10p and 20p to a number of menu items that have been impacted the most by inflation.

He added that the prices of some products on the current menu would stay the same and that prices could vary from restaurant to restaurant.

Macrow went on to say: “We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could. We will continue to listen to what you want from us and work tirelessly to find solutions to today’s cost challenges affecting our business.”
