The Women In Meat Industry Awards are back for 2022 and kicking off by offering the opportunity for companies and individuals across the industry to nominate candidates. This is your chance to propose those special women that you consider to be outstanding.

WIMIA RISING STAR BANNER 6

Nominations for this year's WIMI Awards are now open.

The annual Awards recognise the important and significant contributions that women make across the meat sector. The initiative is unique, highly popular and more importantly, it is driven by company or individual nominations and votes to highlight individual people who really make a difference.

With the new campaign now underway, readers of Meat Management or those from the wider industry can nominate candidates in a range of various categories. You might nominate one person or several, the main thing is to get those names put forward as soon as possible.

Once the nomination process completes, and this must be by the final deadline of 11th July, the selected finalists will go through to the voting stage of the awards.

All is finally revealed at a fantastic five-star ceremony and dinner in London on 11th November.

The coveted overall Meat Businesswoman of the Year recipient is chosen from one of the category winners by a judging panel and recent winners of this top award are:

  • 2018: Lisa Hand - Dunbia
  • 2019: Lucianne Allen – Aubrey Allen
  • 2020: Margaret Boanas – IMTA
  • 2021: Lindsay Murphy - Booker

“Women make a huge and important contribution to the success of the UK meat industry and recognising this is what our awards are all about,” explained event manager Sharon Yandell.

“Nominations are then followed with voting and both aspects of the process are made online, so it couldn’t be easier,” she continued, “so it’s full steam ahead with finding our finalists and winners.

“In 2021 we returned to an in-person ceremony when the category winners were announced and it was great to see so many people coming together to celebrate and enjoy a fantastic evening.”

The voting response from previous years has been phenomenal and organisers anticipate that nominations and votes will once again be very substantial this year. And there are two new categories being added for 2022 as the initiative goes from strength to strength, and these are specifically to cover more directly the independent retailing sector and the poultry sector.

Categories for 2022 are as follows:

  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Foodservice
  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Manufacturing/Processing
  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Craft Butchery
  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Poultry
  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Trade Body

  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Independent Retailing
  • Meat Businesswoman Award – Industry Supplier
