Reed was previously Shadow Justice Secretary in 2021, and has served as MP for Croydon North since 2012. His new position will place him in opposition to Conservative Therese Coffey as he undertakes his Governmental responsibilities.

McMahon publicly resigned in a letter of resignation posted on 4th September on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter).

The letter, addressed to Labour leader Keir Starmer, said: "As the reshuffle begins this week I wanted to take the opportunity to step down from the Shadow Cabinet.

"I am proud of all the work that we have done since you became Leader to expose the Government's failures on water quality, food security, animal welfare and a host of important environmental issues."
