Scholarship success continues

The pig scholarship scheme facilitated by BPEX in conjunction with Harper Adams University is reported to be going from strength to strength.

In total 47 student applications were received, involving 10 companies, across the whole scholarship scheme, compared with 35 last year.

BPEX skills development co-ordinator Sam Bowsher said: “The firms involved include feed companies, production businesses, vet practices, breeding companies and building and technology firms.

“Of those firms, six secured scholars for 2015 and an additional one chose to offer a placement opportunity for a second year student.
“The pig industry scholarships are now well-established with both firms and students and they are all aware of the opportunities available.”

Companies in the Pig Industry Scholarship programme provide a second year scholarship of £3,500 to degree students at Harper Adams and a minimum 12-month paid industrial placement. They will then also have the option to award a final year scholarship of £3,500.
