As Dutch meat wholesaler, Willy Selten is jailed for his part in the 2013 horse meat scandal, this summer’s Meatup and Food Science and Technology Show seminar programme will highlight the importance of recent developments in technology to be used in fraud detection and authenticity testing.

Antony Bagshaw will lead two seminars on food fraud.

In 2013, Selten was arrested for selling 300 tonnes of horse meat on as beef; a Dutch court has found him guilty of falsifying invoices, delivery notes and written statements. Selten will serve a two and a half year prison sentence for his involvement.

At Meatup food fraud will be specifically addressed by Antony Bagshaw, technical specialist at Eurofins Food Testing UK Limited. He will be leading two seminars at the exhibition.
