UK Sausage Week 2019 product nomination now open
This year’s UK Sausage Week will take place from Monday 28th October until Sunday 3rd November and the results of the UK Sausage Week competition will be announced at a celebration lunch on Monday 28th October in London, hosted by TV celebrity chef Lesley Waters.
There is no charge for entering your sausages and product nominations for the UK Sausage Week competition (UKSW) can now be made online, with actual product entries required in September. For details of how to nominate your sausages click here.
Meat Management magazine is once again calling on all butchers, supermarkets, and manufacturers to show the best of what they produce by entering the biggest dedicated sausage event in the UK.
Product judging will be taking place at Harper Adams University test kitchens, led by sausage maestro, CEO of the Institute of Meat and the head judge, Keith Fisher. He will be ably assisted by a team from Ladies in Pigs and other special guest judges.
There are two categories that can be entered: Traditional and Innovative.
Each company may enter a maximum of 2 types of traditional sausage and 2 types of innovative sausage.
The traditional category can include regional specialities such as Cumberland, Lincolnshire, Newmarket, Lorne etc.
For the innovative category, the judges are looking for creative and inspirational products using a diverse range of ingredients.
Organiser of UK Sausage Week, Emma Cash of YPL Exhibitions & Events said: “I would encourage all competitors to nominate their sausages as soon as possible. We love breaking entry records each year and so don’t hold back. September, when product judging takes place, will be here before you know it!
“As in past years we’ll be judging by regions. That includes the North, North East, North West, East Midlands, West Midlands, South East, South West, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Judges will also be looking for Best Manufacturer Own Brand Sausage, Best Foodservice Sausage and Best Supermarket / Multiple Retailer Sausage.”
Emma added: “Winners normally see a big boost in business with significant publicity created as a result, so winning a regional honour or perhaps the overall UK Supreme Sausage Champion means serious money can and will be made.”
UK Sausage Week is supported by Meat Management magazine and is designed to celebrate one of the nation’s most popular food products. Every year, Meat Management helps the meat industry to make the most of the campaign by providing free marketing and POS materials, including an exclusive poster and logos, and a selection of sizzling sausage recipes.
