Women in the meat industry get motivational boost from World Cup winner

England women’s rugby captain Katy Mclean MBE proved to be an inspirational speaker at the first seminar for women in the meat industry last week.

The sell-out event, which took place at the Academy of Medical Sciences in London, attracted over 50 female delegates who were keen to network with like-minded women from across the meat supply chain.

As well as being motivated by Katy’s story of how she led her team to World Cup victory in a traditionally male-dominated sport, delegates also discussed how the group could impact the industry, specifically regarding recruiting female talent.

Independently organised by Laura Ryan of EBLEX and Meat Management’s editor, Pam Brook, the event was supported by representatives from across the supply chain and looks set to become a larger group than the organisers initially anticipated.

“I’m delighted that last week’s event proved so popular and that we’ve received such positive feedback from those who attended,” said Laura Ryan.

“Katy was a really engaging speaker, and even those without any great sporting interest still took plenty away about teamwork, resilience, leadership and motivation.”

Meat Management editor, Pam Brook added: “There seems to be a strong appetite for this initiative right across the meat industry – we are really looking forward to seeing how the group develops.”
