It has been confirmed that the National Association of Catering Butchers (NACB) is to amalgamate with the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS).
NACB director Richard Taylor told Meat Management: "At the NACB we feel the need to amalgamate with the AIMS organisation as is the way of the industry at present. We know we can work together on all aspects especially with the ongoing pressures from the FSA and further legislation. With a consolidated effort to help with the protection of our industry, we will maintain our high standards within our incorporation in AIMS."
Norman Bagley, head of policy at AIMS, added: “It seems a natural fit and something which should benefit the whole sector as catering butcher members now make up a significant part of the AIMS family."
NACB was founded in 1983 to raise the standard of catering butchery across the UK. The NACB standard for supplying the foodservice sector is the only one tailored specifically to meat and the unique operation of the catering butcher.
Members of NACB include major suppliers and producers such as Aubrey Allen, Owen Taylor & Sons, Campbell’s Prime Meat and Direct Meats, among many others.
NACB was previously managed by the International Meat Trade Association (IMTA) secretariat.
