The highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of the virus was found in the Dordogne region last month. The French Government has not confirmed whether others strains have now been detected.

Claims suggest the French government is to chair an emergency meeting with representatives of the poultry industry to discuss how to prevent further outbreaks.
