Cast your vote in the 2013 Meat Management Awards

The prestigious annual Meat Management Industry Awards recognise and reward innovation and expertise across the UK meat and poultry sectors.

Plans are now in fully in-place for the next Meat Management Awards 2013. You will find voting forms and product nomination opportunities in the November / December edition of Meat Management, or you can vote online in the Awards section at meatmanagement.com/awards-2013

“This year,” said Emma Cash, the Awards organiser, “we are anticipating more product entries than ever following the fantastic success of 2012, when we received record entries. Having one single Awards promotion embracing the whole industry means competition is fierce however, but as a result the category winners can use this important accolade to promote their initiatives and products in their future marketing. For example, Asda followed up its win in 2012 with an extensive television campaign and other in-store marketing.

“The venue for the popular black tie dinner and Awards ceremony will be in Birmingham for the first time next year, at The Hilton Metropole on July 2nd 2013. This will be on the evening of the first day of the MEATUP exhibition, which runs over two days at the nearby NEC, so we anticipate that take-up for this glittering event will be fast and furious, particularly as the dinner has been a complete sell-out for the last four years,” said Emma.

Table bookings are already being taken with Emma confirming that 250 guests are already booked some 8 months out from the occasion, adding that she is very confident of a well-supported evening, attracting major players from across the industry.

“I would recommend that Meat Management readers put the 2nd-3rd July dates in their diary now when dinner guests and show visitors can combine a great evening out with a visit to the UK’s only dedicated meat industry exhibition at the NEC,” she added.

All roads really do lead to Birmingham next July as there is a major EBLEX conference running alongside the show on 3rd July and the Livestock 2013 Exhibition is taking place at NEC from 3rd July, offering visitors and dinner guests even more reasons to visit Birmingham. Add on the prospect of world class craft competitions on both days at MEATUP and, of course, the opportunity to talk to some of the leading suppliers in the business and the 2nd and 3rd July become a must for everyone connected with the meat trade in any capacity.

“Each year our Awards just seem to get better and better,” explained Meat Management publisher, Graham Yandell: “The 2012 awards matched the Olympic feel-good factor this year and whilst I’m sworn to secrecy at the moment as to who our dinner guest VIP will be next year, I can assure readers that they won’t be disappointed!”

How do the Awards work?

We have 16 categories. Six of these are product categories and these will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges, the other ten require reader votes or nominations. If you’re entering any products you need to do so by the closing date of 1st March 2013 or earlier.

We welcome products from supermarkets directly; processors and manufacturers on behalf of supermarkets or manufacturers can enter their own products. Entries are, as always, open to retail butchers and we hope as many will enter as possible. When you enter a product you’ll receive all the necessary information in plenty of time explaining when and where products should be sent for judging. We’ll also supply product labels and a guidelines sheet.

Our best supermarket category can be nominated by a third party or multiples can enter themselves. However, we do require the business to have a meat serve-over counter. We will then visit a cross-section of stores to judge our winner. Britain’s Best Butchers’ Shop can be nominated and then we pay them a secret visit!

Other voting categories, such as manufacturer of the year, catering butcher award, best trade organisation etc., companies cannot nominate themselves but must be voted for/nominated by others.

Good Luck!
