Countdown begins to landmark 25th Great Yorkshire competition

The countdown has commenced to the annual and landmark 25th Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage & Products Competition, to be staged at Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, on Sunday, November 17th.

Organised by the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils (CYBC), this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.

It attracts hundreds of entries from butchers across the county, with farm shops and bakers who make products on their own premises also eligible to enter.

There are again three pork pie classes for traditional, stand and speciality cold eating pies, and three sausage classes – thin, thick and speciality. Supreme champions and reserve supreme champions will emerge in both the flagship pork pie and sausage classes.

There are also standalone black pudding and beef burger competition classes, along with a ‘New Kid on the Block’ category for the best newcomer to the contest to encourage new blood to enter and gain valuable experience in the meat trades competition arena.

All championship, 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed class winners will receive individual trophies and Yorkshire Rose Award diplomas, with diplomas also presented to each finalist. Major title winners in particular can expect a significant boost to trade.

Entry forms can also be downloaded from the competition website at www.greatyorkscomp.co.uk where full details are also posted, along with rules of entry.

This year’s CYBC president is Leeds butcher Steve Martin, who runs Bentley’s Butchers in Pudsey and is himself a past Great Yorkshire pork pie and sausage supreme champion.
