Supporting the craft butchery trade, the Q Guild of Butchers represents over 120 of Britain’s butchers from Inverness to Cornwall.

New chair Kathryn Meadows has over 15 years’ experience in the food and butchery sector. After completing a degree in food science, Kathryn embarked on her career in food product development in large scale food manufacturing, supplying to several of the biggest food retailers in the UK. Moving up in the ranks and working across numerous food categories, Kathryn then moved to the UK’s fifth biggest supermarket chain, Morrisons, where she worked in the product development team for just over two years.

In 2012, she took over her family-run business and Q Guild of Butchers member, Nicholson’s Butchers, based in Whitley Bay.

As well as running the family business, Kathryn has been heavily involved and taken great interest in the Q Guild of Butchers, progressing from the North East region as regional chair before moving onto vice chair in 2021.

In 2024, Kathryn will take over the role of chair from John Mettrick with support from her new vice chair, Emma Lishman of butchers Lishman’s of Ilkley, based in West Yorkshire.

Kathryn Meadows said: “It’s an honour to be appointed as the Q Guild of Butchers new and first female chair. With Emma by my side, I feel we can really make a difference in supporting the fantastic establishments we have as members of the Guild, sharing our knowledge and passions in the field of craft butchery.”
