French visit to see UK lamb production

A group of French meat salesmen have been given an insight into lamb production during a visit organised by EBLEX.

The group, all of whom work for companies cutting and packing lamb for the major French retailers, visited a livestock market in Ashford and a sheep farm in the south east, as well as supermarkets.

EBLEX assistant regional manager Nerys Wright accompanied the group and ensured they were given a first-hand look at both the production of lamb and how it is retailing here.

Nerys said: “France remains the major destination for UK exports of fresh and frozen sheep meat, with 52,300 tonnes heading across the Channel in 2012. This visit was the ideal opportunity to give key players in the French market an insight into both ends of the supply chain.

“The trip proved to be a great success and was valuable in giving them a unique experience and enabling them to impart their new found knowledge on how our lamb is produced to customers in the French market.”
