Following Vion's decision to subcontract its slaughtering operations at its Emsteck plant in Germany, the German Food Workers Union (NGG) will be holding a day of demonstration at the plant today. The work is to go to a Romanian subcontractor.

According to the international workers' union IUF, 50 NGG members were dismissed last summer after refusing to agree to conditions demanded by a new subcontractor at a Vion plant in Bavaria. Their jobs were taken over by a Romanian company, which paid substantially lower wages.
