He said: "We find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances as we face the effects of the influence of the Coronavirus Pandemic which will impact on every person both in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

"I am writing to raise awareness and re-assure the meat industry that BDCI is here to provide essential financial support to those who need it.

"The support is available subject to eligibility by completing a straightforward application form; we have staff available to assist with this if it is necessary.

"The roots of BDCI go back almost 200 years, we are the meat industry’s own charity, dedicated to supporting those from the industry who need help. So, please spread the word that we are here and are just a phone-call or e-mail away."
