James Burden acquires part of Kentas of London

James Burden Limited has announced its acquisition of the operations of Kentas of London at 41 West Market Buildings, Smithfield.

Kentas of London is a catering food and drink supplier. The business, with a turnover in excess of £6 million, is described as a natural extension of both product and customer profile for James Burden.

The acquisition will extend the range of cooked meats and delicatessen products supplied into catering and retail businesses throughout London and the south, alongside its supply of meat, poultry and game.

Customers of Kentas of London will continue to receive service and deliveries in the usual way both in person at the Smithfield premises and from new vehicles in the extensive James Burden delivery fleet.

Established on Smithfield in 1974, James Burden Limited is said to be one of the largest traders on Smithfield Markets with six outlets serving a full range of meats, poultry, game, provisions and delicatessen supplies.

The company is part of the Burden Group, which includes direct-to-consumer meat distributor www.meatnoveg.co.uk, alongside south-coast based cruise liner and commercial shipping supplier Cavendish Ships Stores.

In a statement, James Burden Limited asserted that it has experienced steady growth in recent years and anticipates continuing the trend despite the current challenging exchange rate fluctuations.
