JP Garnier
Jean-Pierre (JP) Garnier is an independent analyst and freelance writer with more than 45 years of experience in the meat sector.
As part of his work, JP collaborates with international organisations such as the European Commission and the International Meat Secretariat, and supports meat companies and professional associations on trade, economics and marketing matters.
His roles within the sector have included head of British Meat Exports at the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board as well as the Meat and Livestock Commission. JP has also held positions at the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF), Unilever, PIC, Socopa, Safeway Supermarkets and Vall Companys (Spain) among others. His experience covers the whole breadth of the meat supply chain from genetics to retail, mainly in the UK where he has spent thirty-seven years - but also in Continental Europe and further afield.
He comes from a 'meat family' background and holds various degrees in meat science and technology, management and agriculture economics.
His interest in writing for Meat Management, JP says, is three-fold: "I consider that my technical, marketing and trade experience may have some value for the reader. I also aim to bust the increasingly rife dis- and misinformation on the sector and provide readers with the veracity behind headlines, reports and statistics. Finally, my wish is to support the British meat sector in the media."
