Bernard Matthews has been put up for sale, according to reports from the BBC.

Reports suggest that adviser PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has been appointed to seek out prospective buyers for the turkey producer, which has its head office in Norfolk.

Bernard Matthews was bought by Rutland Partners in 2013, and is said to have experienced ‘disappointing results’ over the past year.

The company currently employs more than 2,000 people across Norfolk and Suffolk.

According to the BBC, Rutland Partners' executive chairman Alan Jamieson emailed staff members to inform them of the decision to sell up, writing: "This does not affect the internal operation of the business. Neither does it reduce in any way Rutland's support for the BM management team as it continues to strengthen and improve the business following the disappointing results achieved over the last year or so."

Meat Management approached both Bernard Matthews and Rutland Partners for confirmation. Bernard Matthews refused to comment and Rutland Partners has not yet responded to our request.
