British Turkey is teaming up again with registered charity The Kids’ Cookery School for a five-day roadshow to get the nation’s children cooking and eating healthy food.
This educational initiative will start at Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary School in Yorkshire on 23rd November before heading to four other UK schools in Hereford, Suffolk, Essex and Abergavenny.
Children aged between seven and 11 will be taking part in cookery workshops creating healthy meals using British turkey.
On the menu for these inspired workshops are mini turkey pizzas, which children will get to create and then take home.
The roadshows aim to educate children to create and cook healthier and more nutritious alternatives and to demonstrate that very tasty food can be quick and easy to create.
The British Turkey roadshow will be going mobile with the Kids’ Cookery School’s portable pop-up kitchen that can transform any space into a kitchen complete with ovens, hand wash basin, sink and demo units, as well as all the necessary kitchen equipment.
Paul Kelly, chair of the British Turkey Federation said: “Obesity in the UK is on the increase so we are delighted to be working with the Kids’ Cookery School to educate children more on healthy eating. British turkey is very high in protein and is very tasty and versatile so an ideal choice for families. In addition, turkey cuts and portions are available all year in supermarkets, and with the turkey market currently growing at 5.2% year-on-year more consumers are including turkey as part of their weekly shop.”
