General manager John Harding from Owton's 'Traditional Family Butchers' will appear on BBC 1's The One Show this Friday 6th June in a feature discussing the comparison between gas barbecues against charcoal. John will be appearing with journalist, broadcaster & food Critic Jay Rayner.
John will be cooking on a charcoal barbecue and going head to head with Brian George, who is the President of the National BBQ Association in a cook off with Jay blind tasting to see if he can tell the difference between the meat cooked on charcoal and gas. Brian says: "I am the first to admit that it's gas for convenience and charcoal for flavour' but I am sure I can give charcoal a run for its money using flavoured wood chips on the gas BBQ."
This is John's first television appearance so he is feeling the pressure to show off his skills with the charcoal BBQ. " The main thing to remember is that you need to use quality meat and do not keep the meat over the direct heat of the charcoal, this way you will get the great smoky flavour without overcooking" said John.
The feature was filmed in Southampton by local production company Topical Television Ltd and will be shown at 7pm this Friday.
