MBW said that the prize will be given to an inspirational female in the UK or Ireland, under the age of 35, who has made a significant impact in her place of work over a very short period.

Last year the inaugural prize was awarded to Harriet Wilson of Aldi UK. Harriet said: “I think the people in the meat industry are our biggest asset and to continue to develop young people gives you a real sense of achievement and is also key to the longevity and sustainability of the industry.”

Laura Ryan, founder of Meat Business Women, added: “Last year we had a phenomenal quality of submissions and Harriet was an inspirational winner. Evidence shows that companies with gender diverse boards achieve superior financial returns, are more resilient to group-think and benefit from women represented at all levels of management. Meat Business Women was established four years ago to assist in making the image, culture and landscape of the meat industry more attractive to female talent, skilfully improve networking and nurture new female entrants into the sector.”

The One to Watch’ prize is free to enter and applications are open until 12th July 2019 with the prize being presented at the Meat Business Women Networking Dinner on 2nd October at Butchers Hall, London. The next Meat Business Women event, when HRH The Princess Royal will be in attendance, takers place on 14th May and is already a sell-out.
