AHDB's head of livestock export trade development, Jean-Pierre Garnier, has decided to leave his role, after 13 years with the levy board.
Known to many in the industry as JP, he will leave his position in January, after having played a “key role in helping steer the beef industry through the BSE crisis and, subsequently, re-establishing UK beef exports over the last decade.
Garnier has more than 35 years of experience in the meat sector, having worked in many countries and across the meat supply chain.
Commenting on Garnier’s departure, Dr Phil Hadley, AHDB International Market Development Director, commented: “JP has made an invaluable contribution to the industry, helping to secure market access and grow markets for red meat products globally.
“Export market development remains one of the cornerstones of AHDB’s work and we are committed to investing in this area as it is one of the biggest opportunities for our farmers, growers and the food supply chain.
“As part of that commitment, AHDB is reviewing its export strategy to ensure we can deliver maximum impact in a highly competitive and rapidly changing post-Brexit world.”
