The Rightful Place of Meat in the National Diet will be the subject under the spotlight at the first ever City Meat Lecture, delivered by Professor Frederic Leroy.
Leroy will deliver his lecture at Butchers’ Hall, London on 11th November. An international voice and authority on the positive role of animal protein, notably meat, the Professor is confident that a meat diet can be consistent with future climate change and nutritional objectives.
NFU deputy president, Stuart Roberts, will chair a post-lecture Q&A debate with guest panelists, including Hsin Huang, secretary general of the International Meat Secretariat.
Hosted by the Worshipful Company of Butchers, the meat industry’s own Livery Company, it is open to the entire food industry and not just liverymen. Past editor of Meat Management Pam Brook, who is also a liveryman said: “There has never been a more critical time for meat to secure its rightful place as part of a balanced diet.
“The meat industry and its products have a great story to tell and I know many business leaders now see it as essential that the sector tells and sells its story well. There is the science and the nutritional data available and meat can and must be part of an environmental solution too.
“There has been a forward-looking City Food Lecture each year but this initiative to focus on a City Meat Lecture is a great move by the Butchers’ Company to help provide confidence and provide those who come with a strong and compelling argument to takeaway and share as widely as possible.”
