The annual Women In Meat Industry Awards is back and looking for nominations.

Michelle Low WIMA 2022

Meat Businesswoman of the Year 2022, Michelle Low of Morrisons Manufacturing – Woodhead Bros (centre) receives her award from Michael Sansum of category partner Dawson Group, and awards co-host Rachel Allen.

Following the outstanding success of last year’s Women In Meat Industry Awards, the new campaign is underway for 2023 and kicking off by offering the opportunity for companies and individuals across the industry to nominate candidates.

This is your chance to propose those special people that you consider to be outstanding and worthy of recognition.

The annual Awards is the biggest and most important initiative which recognise the growing and significant contributions that women make across the meat sector.

Editor of Meat Management magazine Joanna Thomson commented: “The annual Women In Meat Industry Awards is unique, incredibly popular and, perhaps more importantly, it is driven by company or individual nominations and votes to highlight individual people who really make a difference.

“With the new campaign now underway, readers of Meat Management or those from the wider industry can nominate candidates in a range of various categories. You might nominate one person or several, the main thing is to get those names put forward as soon as possible.”

Once the nomination process completes (and this must be by the final deadline of 7th July), the selected finalists will go through to the voting stage of the awards.

All is finally revealed at the 5-star ceremony and dinner, which this year has been expanded once again and will take place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on 17th November. A celebrity guest host will be announced soon.

The coveted overall Meat Businesswoman of the Year recipient is chosen from one of the category winners by a judging panel and recent winners of this top award are:

  • 2018: Lisa Hand - Dunbia
  • 2019: Lucianne Allen – Aubrey Allen
  • 2020: Margaret Boanas – IMTA
  • 2021: Lindsay Murphy – Booker
  • 2022: Michelle Low – Morrisons Manufacturing / Woodhead Bros

“Women make a huge and critical contribution to the success of the UK meat industry and recognising this is what our awards are all about,” explained event manager, Sharon Yandell.

“The nomination process is quickly followed with voting and both aspects of the process are made online, so it couldn’t be easier,” she continued, “we are really excited about finding our finalists and winners once again this year.

“In 2022 we had well over 40,000 visits to the Women In Meat Industry Awards website – it really is quite amazing. There is no doubt that once again we shall have a very busy year and of course when it comes to the ceremony it’s wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate and enjoy a fantastic evening.”

Voting in previous years has been phenomenal and continues to grow, and organisers anticipate that nominations and votes will once again be very substantial this year.
