Ayrshire-based Robertson’s Fine Foods has signed a £625,000 contract to extend its existing supply deal with Aldi, providing all 75 Aldi stores in Scotland with a range of sausages.
The new deal will see Robertson’s Fine Foods’ business with the retailer grow by 175%, taking the total value of their relationship to more than £1 million a year.
The team at the food business has been working with Aldi since 2012, supplying a range of pork products, including Ayrshire middle bacon, smoked pork loin and smoked ham hough.
Following the new contract, Robertson’s Fine Foods will supply a range of Scottish pork sausages and chipolatas made using Specially Selected pork approved by the Scottish SPCA.
Specially Selected Pork Sausages, Specially Selected Pork Sausages with Black Pepper and Specially Selected Pork Sausages with Red Pepper are available now in all Aldi stores in Scotland, while Specially Selected Chipolatas will be on sale from October.
Barry Robertson, business development manager at Robertson’s Fine Foods, commented: “For five generations our family business has upheld a local Ayrshire tradition of producing the very best Scottish pork products, and through our relationship with Aldi thousands of Scottish shoppers have had the chance to try our range.
“We’re incredibly proud that our products are on Aldi shelves throughout the country and look forward to growing our partnership further over the coming years.”
The deal follows Aldi’s commitment in June this year to increase its range of Scottish products from 350 to more than 400 in the next two years.
Graham Nicolson, group buying director for Aldi in Scotland, stated: “We work with the best producers in Scotland and aim to build long term partnerships that support local producers while ensuring our customers get the best quality products.
“The relationship we’ve built with Robertson’s Fine Foods is the perfect example of the approach we take to Scottish sourcing.”
James Withers, chief executive at Scotland Food & Drink, added: “I applaud Aldi's approach to sourcing Scottish and I am delighted they are introducing another of our member’s products to their stores across the country.
“We know from our extensive research that 70% of Scots believe food produced here is of higher quality than elsewhere and almost half of Scottish shoppers say they will try to buy even more local food in the future. It is great that Aldi's commitment to Scottish producers will help to meet this demand.
